CHANNEL ISLANDS -- The National Park Service (NPS) routinely monitors the health of the marine environment at Channel Islands National Park, off the coast of Southern California, but NPS is also contributing to the well being of the environment through its own practices.

The park uses B100 in the vessels Pacific Ranger and Sea Ranger II as well as in other diesel equipment, including stationary power generators, on the islands. The use of biodiesel and other renewable resources makes the islands petroleum free.

"We are an environmental organization, and we should be willing to be in the forefront in demonstrating things that have a positive environmental impact," said Kent Bullard, maintenance supervisor at Channel Islands National Park. “It has been seamless. We haven’t had any performance issues; the biodiesel is performing just as well as diesel.”
