K&K Trucking
In the summer of 2004, K&K Trucking of Okolona, Mississippi began using B100 in a bulldozer and spot truck. Because of their positive experience, in January 2005, they switched to B100 -- supplied by Biodiesel of Mississippi -- in all twelve of their freight trucks. According to K&K Trucking owner, Joe Kilgo, their experience with biodiesel has been extremely positive. Not only is biodiesel less expensive for them than regular diesel fuel, but he is happy to be supporting a homegrown product and helping to reduce air pollution. “I believe we should do anything we can to help our country. People should get behind domestically produced products if they work – and biodiesel works,” Kilgo said. He added that he heard rumors that biodiesel would clog filters and injectors, but it hasn’t. In addition, their trucks are getting about 2 miles per gallon more with biodiesel than they were before making the switch, he said. Kilgo went on to say that
biodiesel has the added benefit of being much easier to breathe than
regular diesel exhaust. They can pull trucks
into the garage to service them and not have to breathe offensive fumes.
He compared the smell of biodiesel to french fries and said it’s
doesn’t burn their eyes the way regular diesel exhaust used to. |
