In an effort to reduce emissions and act responsibly, San Luis Obispo-based Meathead Movers began fueling all of its diesel-powered moving trucks with a B20 biodiesel blend in April 2008.
According to CEO Aaron Steed, "Converting to biodiesel was a natural step. It will contribue to our energy security, while reducing our impact on the environment. We expect to consume 30,000 gallons of fuel this year. With that level of consumption, and all of the information available on the impact of emissions and alternatives, we felt it was important to make a change."
Steed explained that one of the company's two offices is close to Los Angeles, making him very aware of smog and pollution. "we want to make sure that we do whatever we can to be environmentally responsible," he added.
Since making the switch to biodiesel, Steed reports no problems at all. In fact, a mechanic for Meathead Movers, reports that the biodiesel has increased engine lubricity and will, therefore, increase the truck's longevity.
Meathead Movers was founded in 1997 by the Steed Brothers, who at the time, needed to find a way to make money while going to school and playing sports. Hence the name, Meathead Movers, was born. Steed describes a "meathead" as a strong, clean cut, student athlete from a local college. For more information, visit Meathead Movers website.
